~ Soy Frosting Characteristics Frosting is when the soy wax forms tiny, white, frosted-looking crystals on the top of the wax and/or on the sides of the jar. It looks very similar to the white frosted look that sometimes appears on chocolate. This is a natural characteristic of the soy wax, and should not be treated as a flaw. No they are not the same! ~ The Joy of Soy ~ Soy wax is made from soybeans farmed in the U.S. This is an amazing wax. Without adding color or scent, it would be completely edible. It contains No paraffin, therefore No petroleum. Soy Wax is organic, non-toxic, clean burning, and has a long burn time. It is a biodegradable, renewable resource, and is environmentally friendly. We use all natural wicks

A candle will only hold a certain amount of fragrance. Triple scented means that 1.5 ounces of fragrance oil per pound of wax is used as opposed to the standard of .5 ounces of fragrance oil per pound of wax. That is what makes it triple the fragrance and a stronger scent.

The two most important tips are: **Keeping your wick trimmed to 1/4"** **and giving your candle a memory burn - see below**

When burning a candle for the first time, it is important to give it a "memory burn". You should burn the candle for 1 hour for each inch of its diameter. Example: a candle 3" in diameter should be burned for three hours to establish its "memory". This allows your jar candle to establish a full melt pool increasing the scent throw. If a candle isn't given a proper memory burn (meaning if your candle is burned for a short period of time), it will "Core Burn" down the center and a good scent throw cannot be achieved. Also, you'll be left with wax at the bottom and at the side. Drafts or extreme room temperatures can cause uneven burn. The wick must always be kept centered. If a wick should ever move to one side while burning, extinguish candle, and reposition wick to the center. Also make sure your wick is centered each time you extinguish your candle.

No candle can be soot free, but soy wax candles do have less soot and more importantly no toxins in the soot. Black soot is caused by a candle that is smoking (in our candles this is typically from too long of a wick!) There could be several reasons why you are getting black soot. First and very importantly, make sure that you trim the wick to 1/4" each and every time before you light your candle. Second, make sure that you are not burning your candle in a draft. Any draft of wind will make the candle flame flicker and smoke. Third, when you are trimming your candle wicks, do not leave the trimmings in the candle wax . This will cause black soot. Fourth, ensure that there is enough air space around your candle. Do not burn in a cubby or bookshelf. This inhibits the amount of oxygen that is getting to the wick of the candle and will cause black soot to form.

Keep the wick trimmed to 1/4" Try not to trim the wick too short though, as the flame can drown when the wax melts around the wick and that can cause a wick to burn itself out.

Here are a few benefits of a wood wick candle: Wooden Wick candles will remind you of sitting in front of the fireplace or around the campfire. You will hear soothing crackling sound as the flame burns the wood wick. Second is the scent. The two layer wood wick that disperses the scent quicker than our traditional cotton wicks. Another benefit of wood wick candles is their long life. Wood wick candles can last 100 hours or more, depending on the size of the candle.

Palm Wax and the Environment When we first started working with palm wax a few years ago we were really impressed. It's grown on trees and picked rather that sown in a field and harvested, requiring much less energy and labor. And the palm kernel has one of the highest oil contents of any plant, so a lot of wax can be grown in a small amount of space. Its exceptional sustainability combined with clean burn, great scent throw, low price, non-GM, and beautiful appearance got us really, really excited about palm. Unfortunately we soon read reports of vast areas of rainforest being clear-cut to build palm plantations in Indonesia and Malaysia. Southeast Asia is home to some of the most bio-diverse ecosystems in the world. losing these forests destroys the livelihood of native people and compromises the already sensitive orangutan, rhinoceros, and Sumatran tiger populations. The health of the natural environment is of the upmost concern to us, and no matter how great the product, this wasn't acceptable to us, and we knew it wasn't acceptable to our customers either. So we took on the job of finding sustainable palm wax, and we are happy to announce we were successful. After many many months of research, phone calls, meetings, and a trip all the way to Jakarta, we have partnered with a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil. This organization was founded by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and heads of government and industry involved in palm cultivation. The RSPO was founded to develop and define best practices for sustainable palm cultivation, and then help member organizations to implement and verify the procedures. We are very proud to offer this product to our customers as a sustainable, non-genetically modified alternative to other waxes.
